What’s your name and where are you from?

Therese, originally from Newport Beach, but about to move to Santa Monica!

Of the five tastes, sweet, sour, salty, savory and bitter, which one are you?

You’d think I’d pick sweet “sweet” because it sounds nice, but I’m going to choose “Umami” because it’s exotic and exciting!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I have SO many guilty pleasures… macaroni and cheese, chicken wings, Jack in the Box tacos. (Sidenote: How am I not 500 pounds?) But if I had to narrow it down…I’d say potato chips or goldfish crackers. I can rip through an entire bag in one sitting… so I have to avoid buying them at all costs!

Would you ask for potato chips or goldfish crackers for your last meal if you were on death row?

Yes, but I’d also ask for an In-N-Out Double Double with grilled onions, animal style fries, and a Neapolitan shake!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten?

It’s a tie. I’ve had Alligator before—which tasted like a bizarre hybrid between fish and chicken. I’ve also had Balut, which is a Filipino delicacy that features a fertilized duck egg. Oh, and chocolate covered bacon. It’s ridiculously delicious.

Sounds delicious. On that note, what’s one thing that you will never eat again?

I never say never, and I always try to give foods I initially don’t like a second chance, but I’d probably be fine if I didn’t have liver for the rest of my life. (Fois gras, however, is a big exception!)

What’s your favorite restaurant?

Good question. The answer changes every day but right now I’d say Stonehill Tavern at the St. Regis in Monarch Beach. They have a root beer float dessert that is out of this world!

What do you do outside of being a Six Taste tour guide?

I wear a few hats. I have my doctorate in clinical psychology, I counsel disabled students, and I write a LOT of reviews on yelp. A LOT. I’m also writing a book on online dating.

What do you like most about being a tour guide?

I love that it’s a marriage of my two favorite things—people and food. I get to meet new, fun people and feed them while walking around beautiful Santa Monica– for a living! It’s the best job in the world
