ABOUT MIKAWAYA MOCHI        

Founded in 1910 Traditionally manufactured Japanese pastries known as Wagashi April 1994 – Mikawaya created the Mochi Ice Cream and began selling them in its Little Tokyo store. Mochi Ice Cream is now sold in stores around the world. Mochi is glutenous rice that is pounded into a paste, and then molded into shapes. In this case, Mikawaya pioneering the wrapping of mochi around an ice cream center, and the treat became a world wide hit. Frances Hashimoto currently runs the company, entering into the family business in 1970. Currently there are five retail locations including the stop on the Six Taste tour, at the heart of Little Tokyo.
