The first of its kind in America, Wakasaya features a variety of high-quality seafood donburi. The owner, Hideki Fujii-san brought over the chain from Japan, where the food has been wildly successful. Guests of Wakasaya are treated to fresh salmon, tuna, and more over sushi rice. Opening in June of 2009, Wakasaya is slowly building a name for itself in the center of the Japanese Village Plaza. Their popularity can also be contributed to their special ‘food challenge’ that they offer customers. The Bikkuri-don is a massive bowl of food bigger than the average person’s head. If customers can finish the bowl, with the soup, within 15 minutes, their meal is free. If not, failure comes with a heavy $44.80 price tag.
